When Amir made it to the World Finals stage after winning the Last Chance Cypher, he boasted that he was going to be “10 times better,” and he certainly was. In an amazing night of legendary combat, Amir began every battle as soon as the DJ scratched and dropped the first beat.

Who is this B-Boy from Kazakhstan who, in less than two years, has become a dominant force in the breaking scene and won the sport’s most prestigious solo title?

The Tale of Amir

Amir was born in Kazakhstan and raised there until he was 16 years old, when he moved to Russia. He remembers the precise day, year, and hour he started breaking in 2009, when he was 12 years old and a member of the Predatorz and PDVL crews.

Approximately six o’clock on the evening of October 8 is when it happened, as Amir recalls. “My first practise was two days before my birthday, October 10, so I will always associate that with that time period.

In my head, I was born on October 8, 10, and 12, because that was when I officially became a member of the Predatorz group.”

Amir doesn’t recall where or when he first saw breaking, only that he wanted to perform it. However, he grew up in a small area in Kazakhstan where breaking classes weren’t offered, so instead he trained in parkour.

Then, on his way home from school one day, he snatched a sign advertising a breaking class and brought it with him. He required his mother’s approval to enrol in the course, but he knew she wouldn’t provide it, so he had his sister register him over the phone.

Amir’s family wasn’t well off, so he had to get creative about how he was going to cover the cost of his breaking lesson, despite the fact that this method had proven effective.

He had started working at the age of ten, selling copper, so he had some money saved up; he also scarified school lunches in order to save up for the breaking class.

Last Words

In 2020, Amir suddenly became a major player in the breaking scene after he surprised everyone by taking first place in the solo battle at Legits Blast in Prague.

Among the other breakers he bested on that day were B-Boys Xak, Johnny Fox, and Thomaz, all of whom would go on to place in the top 16 at the 2021 BC One World Final.

It was the first time the underground music community heard Amir’s powerful, bass-slamming approach, and he quickly rose to prominence.
