BEIJING — Vicky Persinger and Chris Plys, curling for the United States in the mixed doubles event, put forth one of their best performances of the Olympic tournament but came up short.

Losing to Switzerland by a score of 6-5 in the last round robin game of the mixed doubles curling competition at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 removed them from medal contention.
Both Persinger and Plys experienced heartbreaking losses in Beijing that left them wondering if they would be eliminated or move on to the next round.
Mixed doubles can be “rough,” as Plys remarked afterward. When I go back on the week as a whole, we were in every game and it really boils down to one or two shots per game that can easily flip 3-6 into 6-3 or 7-2. The bad news is that we were on the losing side.
The loss on Sunday was Persinger and Plys’ third by a single point, and their second by two points. They showed a lot of resiliency on Sunday, when they gave up three points in the first end but then only allowed one more the rest of the game.
However, the Americans were unable to score more than one point until the seventh end, when they finally tied the game with a deuce. After regaining the initiative, the Swiss completed a winning draw to the button.
Plys added, “I think I speak for both of us in saying that we are quite upset.” “You work your a** off to get to these events and to not have what you know you have on that stage is, to put it mildly, disappointing.”
In her First Olympics, Persinger Shared that Same Sense of Disappointment.
We didn’t play as well as we’re capable of, and I know both of us are capable of,” she remarked. I agree with what Chris said; it’s not like everything that happened out there was terrible, but there were a few sad outcomes that will be remembered for a long time.
Earlier on Sunday, in the team’s first encounter of the day, they narrowly lost to the Czech Republic. Despite leading 1-0, 4-3, and 8-7 heading into the last end, Persinger and Plys let up the winning triad to the Czechs. That defeat put the U.S. team below.500 and on the verge of elimination.
Plys commented, “It’s big for sure,” following the defeat. There were a few occasions when we had them. I couldn’t for the life of me complete it. Feeling a mixture of frustration, sadness, and anger towards the world.
On Monday, when they play Great Britain in the final round of the round robin, Persinger and Plys will have one more chance to win the championship.
