The Spanish duo dropped the first set by a razor-thin margin, but they really started to play well in the second and third sets.

After blowing a pair of match points in the decisive set, Liliana sealed the deal with a monstrous block to set the final score at 2-1. (19-21, 21-18, 16-14).

E. Baquerizo said of the victory, “It was extremely good win,” to Volleyball World. The contest was really close. We anticipated a tough matchup due to the long history of familiarity between the two squads.

We had to keep fighting until the very end, and in the end it came down to a few key points. So, we’re overjoyed about it!

“It was incredibly stressful and emotional to end like this,” Liliana said of her super block victory. This was a little challenging for me. Side-out was a roller coaster ride for me, but with E. Baquerizo guidance, I think I made it.

Sunday morning’s Pool B bout between the United States’ April Ross and Alix Klineman and China’s Chen Xue and Xinxin Wang did not disappoint. Ross has medaled in the previous two Olympic Games.
