Discord is a digital distribution and instant messaging network. People now go to Discord to meet new people and form social networks. It lets you to communicate with your pals via text, audio, or video chat. Your conversations remain private, and you are always protected.
In the last few years, it has become an excellent forum for promoting mental health awareness. Free versions of Discard are now accessible in over 30 different languages. The formatting options in Discord will be covered in this post. Discord’s formatting basics are the subject of this article. Prior to describing how to format, we need to know what engine it runs on.
We type into Discord and the text is formatted by a lightweight and intriguing engine that runs in the background. We call it Markdown since it’s a markup language. It uses bold, italics, underlining, and other formatting options to make the text stand out. Founded by John Gruber and Aaron Swartz in 2004, it has since grown into a worldwide phenomenon. Discord recognised the opportunity and made modifications to the engine to take use of it.
There’s one more thing you need to know before we get to the basics of formatting. Discord uses a package called Highlight.js, which makes your text stand out by highlighting it. Code blocks are highlighted in this manner.
Let’s get started without further ado.
Discord Text Formatting Guide
We’ll go over the basics of bolding, italicising, and underlining text in this article. As a starting point, let’s cover the essentials before moving on to the more exciting aspects.
In Discord, how do you make text bold?
Adding bolded text to your document is as easy as following this basic guide.
Two asterisks appear at the beginning and end of the text. An asterisk (*) is all there is to it. To access the symbol, simply press a number key on your computer keyboard. To make your text bold, simply press “Shift+8.” Here’s an illustration of what I mean:
**Bolded text** is seen here.
In Discord, how to italicise (create slanted) text
This method is very similar to the previous one in terms of how it is implemented. Again, an asterisk is required to produce italics. Only one must be used on each side this time, rather than two. On your keyboard, use “Shift+8” for the same result.
Here’s an illustration of what I mean:
Here’s a sample of italicised text.
Bold Italicized Text (Bold + Italic) in Discord
The ability to use both bold and italics at the same time in discord is also available. This time, you’ll need three asterisks instead of one or two. To retrieve the result, type asterisks at the beginning and end of the text. An illustration is given.
An example of ***bold italicised text*** may be seen here.
Discord’s Text Highlighting
Two underscores are all you need to make your text appear underlined. (_) is the symbol for the underscore. This key is located on the keyboard’s symbol keys. The text should begin and conclude with two underscores on either side of each line. The following is an example of how to use this method:
As an illustration, consider the following piece of __underlined text__.
Discord’s Strikethrough Text Scripting Guide
The tilde keys are all you need in Discord to make strikethrough text. Keys with a tilde symbol () look like this. Start and end your writing by pressing two tilde keys. You’ll locate it just above the “1” key on the right side. To make a strikethrough, press “Shift+.”
Here’s an illustration of what I mean.
An example of “crossed out” text is seen below.
Keyboard Layouts for International Keyboard Use
One must be familiar with international keyboard symbols, which differ from those on English keyboards. For international layouts, we’ve provided you with a layout and an indication of where an asterisk might appear.
Shift+[+] (key to the right of Ü) in German
Shift+[+] (key right of'(Spain) or’ (Latin America)) is the Spanish keyboard shortcut.
* (key to the right of the ù percent) in French
Belgian French: Shift+$ (the key to the right of ).
Shift+3 for French (Switzerland)
Shift+[+] (the key to the right of the èé)
SHIFT +'(key to the right of )
No matter what layout you use, this will help you locate the asterisks.
Text Formatting Options Combination Further Still
Discord also has the ability to combine text forms. Bold, italic, and bold-italic combinations of the underline are possible.
The following is an example of each.
Text that is highlighted and underlined.
There should be one asterisk and two underscores on either side of the word you want to underline or italicise.
“__*underlined and italicised text*__,” for instance.
Bold and Underlined Text
Use two asterisks and two underscores on both sides of your text if you want it highlighted and bolded.
Here’s a sample of a bolded and underlined text:
Text in Bold, Italic, and Embellished Forms
You will now require three asterisks instead of two and two underscores on both sides of the text to obtain the text underlined, italicised, and bolded.
You may say something like this: “_***italicised and underlined text***__.”
To sum it up, Discord is a fascinating application. Now that’s what I call a game. The more you use this app, the more you’ll benefit from this article. So, bookmark this page right now and have a great time.
